Buying an NFT can seem complicated if you have never done it before - but it actually isn’t. Keep reading this article for a step-by-step guide on how to purchase NFTs and start building your own collection in Zelus Wallet.

NFTs are primarily sold on NFT marketplaces - and nowadays there are plenty of them to choose from. For this example we will be using OpenSea but the process is very similar throughout most other marketplaces.

Note that in order to buy an NFT on Opensea, you'll need to have certain amount of crypto in your wallet, depending on what blockchain your NFT is on. This is because purchasing an NFT requires sending a blockchain transaction, which requires a gas fee. If this is new to you, make sure to checkout out our other helpful articles:

You'll also need to use WalletConnect to connect to the NFT marketplace. If you're not familiar with WalletConnect, check out our how-to guide!

🛒 How to buy an NFT from OpenSea

The first step is to sign up in OpenSea using your Zelus wallet:

  1. From the OpenSea’s homepage click on the icon at the top right of the screen.

  2. Select ‘WalletConnect’ from the options listed and you will see a QR code.

  3. Your wallet should now be connected to your OpenSea profile and OpenSea should appear in the list of connected Dapps.

Next, you need to find an NFT you want to acquire. Large marketplaces like OpenSea can be overwhelming at first as of ‘what to search for’ and how, because of the large amount of NFTs listed. There are two main ways to explore: input a keyword on the search bar at the top or simply click on ‘Explore’ and then use the filters on the top bar to browse through NFT collections of your interest.

Please note that not all NFTs are sold in the same way on marketplaces. When you find something you like, you might be presented the following options:

  • Buy now’ - you can make an immediate purchase paying the price displayed

  • Make an offer’ - you can indicate the price that you are willing to pay, and the seller decides to accept or reject it

  • Place a Bid’ - like auctions on eBay, at the end of the auction time the highest bidder gets the NFT

You will need to have enough funds in your wallet to cover the cost of the NFT plus the gas fee required to execute the purchase. The currency that the NFT is being sold in will appear next to the price in the NFT details.

In this case we are buying an artwork from the HoneyBadgersArt collection. Hit “Buy now” to proceed to checkout. You’ll see the main details of the NFT, such as name, its respective collection, and the total price.

When you click on ‘Complete Purchase’, OpenSea will trigger a preview screen on your Zelus wallet indicating the total cost of the purchase: the price of the NFT plus the applicable gas fee.

Slide to confirm the purchase from Zelus wallet. Soon you will be able to see the new NFT in your wallet!
